As you think of the participation (people and verbs) and the framework (organization of the urban room and then the neighborhood) think about of the life activity of the Rambla, but perhaps at a different scale, or different orientation. We have seen MANY ramblas. Maritime Metropolis almost all the villages/neighborhoods had these. Granada had a Rambla (the largest space of the Centro Historico). The Albacin had many small spaces connected but paths.
Islands, paths, linear ramblas. Think how these carve into the 22@2 neighborhoods.
Do not forget the 10% open spaces per block, coming. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE THESE? Patterns?
TILING EXERCISE…for those from the 222 course.
***But think from the Bottom Up of your Affect, in parallel with the neighborhood organization.
Urban Room- Affect and Organization (do line drawings as we have been doing in-situ for a month)
Neighborhood- Organization of the urban rooms, DIFFERENCES between them. As ecologist Gregory Bateson would say, “the difference that makes a difference.”
District- External Forces (anthrolopogical but also natural like wind directions) that influence the differences of the neighborhood.
Protect historic fabric as ‘materiality as identity.’
